Introduction to PM Ujjwala Yojana
PM Ujjwala Yojana Launched on 1st May 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme aims to promote smoke-free rural life and help rural households by providing free LPG gas connections.
What is PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0?
After the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 was launched on 10 August 2021, under which a target was set to issue 60 lakh additional LPG connections, which has been achieved by 31 December 2022.
The truth of PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0
Women who could not apply under Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 are being given another chance, such women are being given the facility to apply in the third phase so that they can also get the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. (A budget of Rs 1650 crore has been set for the third phase)
Note: Till the date of uploading of this article no online portal has been opened by the name of PM Ujjwala Yojana 3.0, Ujjwala 3.0 means the facility of application for the third phase.
Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana Background
If we look at the rural background in India, food has been cooked on the stove in most of the houses since a very long time, the effect of which is directly seen on the health of women, air pollution and felling of trees. Keeping all these problems in mind, the central government started the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana with the slogan ‘Clean fuel, better life’.
Gas subsidy available under PM Ujjwala Yojana
Under this scheme, subsidy is being given on LPG gas throughout the year to the poor families, which is being sent to the accounts of women with a subsidy of Rs 300 on each cylinder on refilling 12 cylinders in a year from the year 2025.
Benefits under Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana
- Under the PM Ujjwala Yojana, free LPG gas connections will be given to the applicant women of the country.
- A cash amount of Rs 1600 will be provided by the Government of India for PM Ujjwala Yojana connection. (This amount is given directly into the account of women)
- Under this scheme both the first LPG refill and gas stove are provided free of cost.
Eligibility for Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana

The applicant woman should be a resident of India.

Only women can apply for Ujjwala Yojana.

The age of the applicant woman should be more than 18 years.

That woman should belong to BPL family.

The applicant woman should be included in the list of SECC-2011 (Socio Economic and Caste Census).
Ineligibility for PM Ujjwala Yojana
If a woman already has an LPG connection, she will not be considered eligible to get the benefit of this scheme.
These people will also get the benefit of Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana
- SC/ST women,
- To the woman of the beneficiary family of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,
- To the woman of the beneficiary family of Antyodaya Anna Yojana,
- To the Most Backward Classes (MBC),
- Tea plantations tribes,
- People living in river islands etc.
If the woman does not fall in the above category, she can claim to be a beneficiary under poor family by submitting a 14-point declaration (as per the prescribed format).

PM Ujjwala Yojana Free Gas Cylinder Apply Online
- To get free LPG gas connection under PM Ujjwala Yojana, women have to apply online in the manner given below.
Step 1: First of all go to the official website of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Click to go- Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0
Step 2: Then select the option ‘Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection’.
Step 3: After this click on ‘Click Here’.
Step 4: After this a list of registered gas companies will appear, from which you can choose the company whose gas connection you want. For example, we can take Bharat Gas.
Step 5: On selecting the option of the company name, you will reach the official website of that company, from where you will be able to apply online under this scheme.
Step 6: After visiting the official website of Bharat Gas, select Ujjwala 2.0 New Connection in the connection type.
Step 7: After visiting the official website of the given gas companies, you can easily apply for Ujjwala 2.0 New Connection by filling the asked information correctly and avail the benefits of this scheme.
- Application for PM Ujjwala Yojana can also be done by directly visiting the gas agency, but keep in mind that you will be able to apply offline at the gas agency only when your KYC is done. If you want, you can do online KYC by following the process given below.
How to do KYC for PM Ujjwala Yojana?
To get the benefit of PM Ujjwala Yojana, it is necessary to do KYC. To complete KYC, you have to go to your nearest gas agency and fill a form and submit it along with the documents.
